428collective is a group of 11 contemporary artists who live in Sonoma County. Through our diverse events and exhibits, the mission was to enrich the conversation about art and its relationship to place—specifically rural areas that do not have support networks for experimental, risk taking art.
Our projects included a collaborative show entitled “Falling Dark,” which considered the liminal twilight hour, a vibrant annual art subscription called 428CSA, a year-long series of 428collective member solo shows at Blomster Gallery in Guerneville, a community dinner lecture series, monthly open art critiques, outdoor film nights with local filmmakers, and a forthcoming online magazine featuring a curated local arts calendar, interviews, and articles on contemporary art in non-urban places. Through all of our group projects (and we only just began in late 2012!), we have become a much-needed central art resource for our community. The next step is to expand our audience to include other artists and art supporters from outside our area. In this way, we will broaden our larger conversation about art and place, and make Sonoma County a new hub for creative innovation in the Bay Area.
